INTRODUCTION:
Ayurveda, the traditional ancient Indian system
of medicine, holds out to the world, the promise
of a healthy & long life. Ayurveda (a Sanskrit
word meaning the 'science" or 'wisdom of
life') is an ancient philosophy based on a deep
understanding of eternal truths about the human
body, mind and spirit. This system of medicine
developed over a period of 5000 years encompasses
both Preventive & Prescriptive aspects. It
consists of a great deal of excellent practical
advices for the common man on every aspect of
life and living. What is unique to Ayurveda is
that while treating a patient, the physician gives
importance to his constitution, his environment
and diet, there by assuring better chances of
sustained relief from symptoms & diseases.
Ayurveda envisages
daily and seasonal regimens, to be followed in
order to maintain normal health. However, it is
not always possible to follow these regimens strictly
in this era of fast and mechanized life. Consequently,
many people suffer from ailments due to immune
deficiency, allergic reactions and augmented degenerated
changes. Even though modern medicine contributes
to health in many aspects, it has yet to evolve
a satisfactory solution to the above-mentioned
conditions. Ayurveda is the exception.
Today it is more relevant than ever in treating
diseases through panchakarma and allied therapies
that enhance the patient's vital power in a manner
that no other system of medicine can provide.
